iPhone 3G free on contract with O2

So, now the dust has settled, and O2 has confirmed the 3G iPhone will hit the UK on 11 July, we’ve just got news that the 8GB model of the new cell will come free to those who opt for the £45 and £75 deals.

If you choose the original £35 a month offer you’ll have to pay a mere £99. And now there’s a new (and frankly rubbish) £30 pricepoint, giving you a measly 75 minutes, 125 texts and unlimited data for the same price. Just pay the extra fiver and get 600 minutes and 500 texts we say.

As for the 16GB model, that’ll cost £159 on the £30 and £35 tariffs, £59 on the £45 a month deal and nothing if you shell out £75 every four weeks. You will need to activate the phone in store though. So no cheeky unlocking here.

In terms of Wi–Fi, you still get free access to all of The Cloud's networks, and now BT Openzone. So you probably won't even need to use 3G that much once you're in town. 

O2 also says they’ll be offering it on pay–as–you–go, although they’ve not said how much this will cost. Don’t expect it to be cheap though. You’ll need to register your interest with them and they’ll keep you in the loop.
