How much will it cost on PAYG?
There’s no official word on PAYG price. O2 leaked provisional details on their site, putting the 8GB model at £299 and 16GB at £470. We’ve heard prices up to £370 for 8GB and £470 for 16GB.
When will it be coming out on PAYG?
Carphone Warehouse and O2 both say that it will be out in time for Christmas 2008.
If I’m an existing customer, can I upgrade in store on 11 July?
No, you have to do it online. After O2’s issues with their website, you should check back on 10 July and wait to see if stock has been replenished.
Will I have to sign a new 18–month contract?
Yes. If you’re upgrading, you can extend your current deal, if not, you’ll need to make sure you’re at the end of your contract.
How much will MobileMe cost?
It comes with a free 60-day trial, after which you’ll need to pay an annual fee of around £50 to access all your mail, calendars and docs via Me.com.
What time can I buy an iPhone 3G on 11 July?
Apple, O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores open at 8:02am on Friday 11 July. We advise you get there early, despite O2’s claims they have “significant stock.”
Will I be able to get a 16GB iPhone 3G on 11 July?
Yes, but only in black. There are no white versions in the UK as yet. Expect 16GB stock to be limited in comparison to the 8GB version.
Can I send picture messages using the iPhone 3G?
No, the iPhone 3G does not support MMS, so you’ll have to do with sharing pictures online.
Can I use my iPhone 3G to shoot video?
No. Like the original model, you cannot shoot video on the iPhone 3G.
Is the camera any better than the 2MP version on the old iPhone?
It’s still a disappointing 2MP, but Apple says it’s been tweaked to offer better images.
Can I use Bluetooth to connect to multiple devices?
No. The iPhone 3G does not have A2DP Bluetooth, meaning it only has limited connectivity. Apple is keeping quiet about the range of devices you’ll be able to connect to.
When can I use the App store?
The App store will go live on 11 July, the day that iPhone 3G is released in the UK. iPod Touch users will have to pay for the upgrade.
Is there a fair usage policy on data?
No, but O2 does have an ‘excessive usage’ policy. Essentially, if you’re using an iPhone, you can use as much data as you need. However, if you move an iPhone SIM into another device, you will be penalised.
Is there Adobe Flash support on the iPhone?
No. Despite rumours to the contrary, the iPhone 3G will not have Flash support and Apple is keeping quiet about plans to introduce it.

Will the google maps be resident on the handset, or will you need to be connected to 3G to use GPS? I'm thinking of taking my iPhone to France and don't want to be paying stupid roaming fees to find out where i need to go...

When I spoke to o2 on Monday after having no luck online, they said they can't take orders over the phone until friday, so maybe calling at 8:02 on Friday morning is a good idea to try and avoid more web chaos (assuming they'll have more stock on Friday)

There's loads of posts on other websites (just google "iphone upgrade instore friday") saying that people have spoken to individual o2 stores, and the stores have confirmed that existing iPhone customers can upgrade in store if they queue up with everybody else.

Sorry for the excessive postings, but the O2 website has been updated this morning and reads,
"Apple will be selling iPhone 3Gs in their stores, but please note that existing O2 customers can only upgrade in an O2 or CPW store."
I think this means that existing iPhone customers can upgrade instore, but I'm going to check with my local store today to check.
