iPhone 3G – cheaper, faster, GPS

Steve Jobs has unveiled the brand new iPhone. And, yes, it packs 3G. It’s all black, is thinner at the side, and comes rocking GPS. The 16GB model will also come in white.You’ll get solid metal buttons, rather than the cheapy plastic ones you get on the old model. However, the whole bod’ is plastic, which does suck a little.There’s also integrated GPS, which will surely have the likes of Nokia and HTC losing sleep tonight. It’ll actually be AGPS, which means it’ll be nice and snappy. There’s also a flush headphone jack. So you can use whatever ear buds take your fancy.Jobs says the iPhone 3G is 36 per cent faster than the Nokia N95 and Palm Treo 750. But we’ll be the judge of that as soon as we get our paws on one.Battery–wise, Steve says you’ll get five hours talk time, up to six hours browsing, seven hours of vids and 24 hours from your on board iPod. The 3G 8GB will shift for $199 in the States, the 16GB for $299. It’s due to arrive on July 11 in 22 countries.Jobs has said that the 8GB version cost any more than $199 around the world, so rest assured it’ll cost about £100 when it reaches these shores next month.Disappointingly, the camera’s still 2MP and there’s no 32GB model either. Boo. Still, at least we got what we asked for.For those of you looking to get your hands on one, The Carphone Warehouse has confirmed that it "will be the only independent mobile phone retailer to be stocking the handset when it is released in the UK".
