Google Nexus One phone official – coming to UK this spring

05 Jan 2010

Nexus One

After a month or so of leaks and whisperings, even up until earlier today, Google has confirmed the Google Nexus One phone, complete with all the specs we kind of already knew and deets on Android 2.1 as well.

Designed "very closely" with HTC, the Nexus One will pack a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm jack and stereo Bluetooth.

Measurements-wise, expect the phone to be around 11.5mm thick and weigh in at 130g – or "no thicker than a pencil, and no heavier than a Swiss Army knife", according to Google and HTC.

A new inclusion is "multicolour notification LED" under the trackball, which we're assuming will flash up different colours when you have a message, email or missed call. Ahh, how pretty.

It will of course come showing off the lovely Android 2.1, or the Eclair update, which will include more panes, new widgets, dynamic animated backgrounds, a 3D app launcher and voice support for all text fields.

Google also showed off Google Earth for Android, which will also make use of voice support for those of you too lazy to type.

As expected, Google has said it plans to sell the Nexus One through a Google-hosted web store, but will be also make it available through selected carriers – Vodafone has been confirmed for Europe with a date of "spring 2010".

It's available now in the States, listed for $529 SIM free or $179 on contract with T-Mobile USA, but our prices remain to be seen.

We'll be keeping you updated with everything we hear, but in the meantime, check out the Google Nexus One webpage for more details on what to expect.

First. Might order mine by the end of the week, depending on how Stuff and T3 review the phone. Looks hot though and I love the engraving idea - clearly a step ahead of Mr Jobs. Why didn't they enable engraving on the iPhone? Anyway, chop chop with the review!

Engadget's review, forgive my language, was bullshit.

Please give us stuffers something to think about

You imply the unlocked phone isn't available for the UK with your ''It's available now in the States'' -- it's available for the UK. Mine allegedly shipped at 3:25 this morning. Can't wait :-)
