CES 2010: LG Expo and Samsung W9600 pico projector phones

07 Jan 2010

LG Expo

2008 saw a plethora of pico projectors like the Optoma Pico PK101, then last year came the Nikon S1000PJ projector cam.

This year the world of miniature projection is marching on, as both LG and Samsung have announced pico projector phones.

The LG Expo (pictured) cheats slightly with an optional pico projector add-on which takes the place of the battery cover on the back. Once piggybacked, it'll project an image up to 66in.

It also boasts a fingerprint scanner for security (and for 'turboscrolling', apparently). It runs Windows Mobile 6.5. on a speedy 1GHz Snapdragon processor with a 3.2in touch screen and 5MP camera.

Meanwhile, the Samsung W9600 is a more integrated affair with none of this projector barnacle business, instead shooting pics and video out a lens in the top of the phone. It also sports a lovely AMOLED screen and a 5MP camera.

They're admirable attempts, but we're not sure how the pico projector phones will fare in the shops – would you buy one? Let us know in the comments.

I'm not sure I would spend my hard earned ££ on one of these projectors. I could be swayed depending on the reviews it gets.
