BIG IN 2009 – Windows Mobile 7

23 Dec 2008

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

We hate to say it, but Windows Mobile is a bit old hat. Which is a shame because some of the phones that use it are, quite frankly, gorgeous.

It’s like having a stunning looking other half who’s not quite there upstairs - if you catch our drift. Makers like HTC and Sony Ericsson, responsible for the pretty Xperia X1, are doing their best though and resorting to putting their own front-ends on to cheer things up.

Rumours have it that Windows Mobile 7, its latest mobile OS, will be delayed until late in 2009. But, if the other rumours are true, that it will use extensive gesture control and motion-sensitivity as well as multi-touch screen actions then a) hooray and b) don’t release it until you have got it right, MS.

With Apple’s iPhone dominance they can’t afford to sit around fiddling with their Zunes, 2009 will be the year Windows Mobile fights back.

We mean iPhone dominance in terms of mobile web browsing and also in terms of its massive market share growth over the past 20 months, plus in terms of capturing the public's imagination.

Or indeed, try simply Googling "iPhone global market share" or "iPhone smartphone market share""
