BBC iPlayer iPhone app to offer live streaming and downloads

30 Nov 2009

While we know that BBC's iPlayer is already being prepped for its debut on Freesat next month, it seems the service is also revving up for improved features on the iPhone as well, after the Beeb itself leaked a screenshot of the app in action. The image, included in some press information about iPlayer viewing figures, appears to show a brand spanking new app with a live streaming button and an option to download programmes as well. These features are not currently available in the iPhone-tweaked web app that iPhone users are currently using. Interestingly the images also show the option to "send a message" to shows you're watching live, directly from within the app. Handy for you interactive types. There was no mention of the iPhone app in the press details so we currently have no idea as to when we can expect an official release as yet. We'll of course keep you updated with any details we get, but in the meantime be sure to check out our round up of the top TV on demand services out there.Via: Electricpig
