Apple Mac Tablet coming 19 January?

30 Sep 2009

More details have cropped up surrounding the mysterious Mac Tablet, including a launch date for mid-January next year.An apparently reliable source told iLounge that the Tablet will be announced on 19 January 2010 with a 10.7-inch screen, after a prototype with a 7-inch screen was deemed to be too small. It will then start selling in May or June, after a period of iPhone-esque hype.Other details from the source say the tablet will run the iPhone OS and will be available in two versions, one with 3G capabilities, and the other without. The rumours that it looks like a blown up iPhone are also said to be true, complete with the curved back.Whether all of this turns out to be true of course remains to be seen, but the rumours aren’t quite matching up at the moment. A few weeks ago we heard 9.7-inch screen whispers from Taiwan, and a launch date of February. So which to believe? Let us know what you think to all the rumours below and be sure to check out the ten things we'd like to see from the Mac Tablet.

oh no, months of pointless speculation to follow as Apple launch what apparently is the first ever tablet PC in the world, or so the iknucklheads would have you think.... with a phone OS

It is easy for people to say an Apple tablet is nothing new. The same was said about the Iphone and Apple now have the Market leader. I am sure I will be tempted by it when it comes out even though I have a MacBook.

@DrunkenMax You really need to find a better insult than "iknucklheads"! @Criss11 I think you're right, Apple launching a tablet is going to be interesting. The difference? Most tablet PCs are frustrating to use. If Apple brings a UI to play that matches the useability of the iPhone, it'll be killer. But let's not count the Microsoft Courier out of the equation.

@MicWright Why when it obviously pressed your buttons?

And BTW, the Tablet isn't "coming" 19th January. The hype is coming, the tablet will follow. If it has the iphone OS it could impact on app development for said Jesus Phone as companies get distracted on what hardware platform to develop on.

@drunkenmax Didn't press my buttons Max, I'm modern and touchscreen ;) This ongoing argument about whether Stuff should cover rumours around Apple products is interesting but let's be frank – people ARE interested. And it's very easy to play semantics with headlines.

Or you could look at headlines being inaccurate or hype and not reflective of objective journalism. People always argue that its just "semantics" when what they really mean was just not very accurate. I do think you should cover ALL industry rumours and info. I'm pretty sure they'll base a bond villain on Jobs one day,
