32GB iPhone – Apple hoovering up flash memory

20 Feb 2009

iPhone 3GThe next–gen iPhone was the elephant in the MWC halls this week, with every major mobile clan outing phones that they believe can take down Apple. But clues about the new model continue to emerge, with Apple buying up all the flash memory it can get its mitts on.

AppleInsider has got hold of details regarding Cupertino's latest deals, with Phil Schiller and his band of secretive execs buying up all of Samsung's memory allocation until April. That means that they're clearly working away on something big, with a beefed up 32GB iPhone already being touted for June.

Leaked shots of the supposed next–gen iPhone have already appeared online
, but this is the strongest indication yet that a new model will come offering storage to match the Nokia N97.

What do you think? Will Apple give the iPhone a makeover in June? Mouth off in the comments section.

I think a new iPhone this year is inevitable. The 32GB iPod Touch has been on sale for awhile clearly showing that an iPhone version is possible.

The thing I don't want Apple to do is scrap the 8GB model though. The iPhone costs an arm and a leg as it is. To buy a better speced version, I might have to sell my other leg, which I'm not prepared to do.

Lol Timmy, don't forget tech always gets cheaper over time...Apple might scrap the 8gb and lower the price of the 16gb to match it..? like they sometimes do with laptop upgrades (more memory same price) always a possibility

I got a weird feeling that iPhones new camera will be a 3.2mp jobby. It seems the natural progression with the way that the iPhone has developed. A flash would initially seem a good idea but may hinder the case stability slightly so I cant see the arrival of that in the very near future. I am more interested in Apples iPhone spreading to other mobile service providers, competition is healthy for business and beneficial for consumers.

I reckon a few new features too. I tend to agree that Apple will gradually update the iPhone range, not go from 2 meg camera up to 5 and add flash.. I think 3.2 and recording facility but no flash. Also, MMS, cut n paste and larger memory with added ability to make a few more finer adjustments to things like the ipod player and text messaging  and the navigation/maps program also screen resolution quality phone settings... but hey...what do I know. One is hoping.

Timmy the Touch uses 2 16gb chips which cant fit in the iPhone hence the iPhone will need one 32gb chip which will also mean the Touch could be 64gb see article here http://mygadgetlife.co.uk/start/?p=355

Camera will most likely be a 5mp sensor doubt xenon flash tho too much of a power draw see article here http://mygadgetlife.co.uk/start/?p=497

One thing i do think we will get is wifi 'n' syncing see here http://mygadgetlife.co.uk/start/?p=542

Dont think flash will arrive this year tho

would love a new iphone, mms, copy and paste is a must. then of course 32GB, a better camera with video. bluetooth(get real), maybe microsoft office? Then lower, cheaper contracts, and maybe a nano version with lower price tag.

I have still to buy an iPhone simply because the specs so far have not met what I really want:

At LEAST 32GB but preferably 64GB!

A much better camera- at least 5MP with video recording ability and a flash!

    Bluetooth support for wireless headphones.

    Flash support.

    Available on other networks!

This is seriously not a lot to ask, but Apple seems to do a fantastic job on everything else but forget to include all the standard features that every other phone already has.

Make the iPhone perfect please apple!

    Flash support in browser

    MMS

Camera upgrade (inc video rec possibly flash)

    Copy and Paste

    Bluetooth.

All would suit me fine even if it did mean the handset staying the same size or even thicker for that matter!
