HTC Desire fails T-Mobile quality checks, store availability delayed

HTC Desire

It seems the HTC Desire has not hit T-Mobile stores as expected today, after it failed a last minute quality check.

Following comments from Stuff reader Paul Riley on our original story, stating the problems he'd been having getting his hands on the phone, we decided to do a bit of research – and it's all a bit confusing to say the least.

We called three stores throughout London to enquire about the phone's availability, but all confirmed there had been a "software glitch" found, meaning the phone was now delayed until around the 7 April.

HTC has been dishing out the line that the Desire has received the quality approval necessary for public release, but that re-branded phones may experience different issues – suggesting it may be T-Mobile's own software that has caused the glitch.

We've put in a call to T-Mobile's spokespeople, who are waiting to hear the news from the top as to what's gone on. Strangely it's thought the handsets ordered through the website are still being shipped as normal.

We'll keep you updated with everything we get, but in the meantime be sure to let us know any problems you've had trying to buy the Desire through T-Mobile, below.

mr gadget - are you suggesting that your desire doesn't have any problems? because the latter issue you have there seems pretty big to me. I haven't got a desire yet but am planning to. Can we find out what the software glitch is?
