Apple to address the press and iPhone 4 issues on Friday
Apple press conferences are usually exciting affairs during which Steve Jobs takes a computer out of an envelope and gets a standing ovation.
But we have a feeling this Friday’s event is not going to involve any ‘actually I’ve got one here’ moments, or even a ‘one more thing…’
Instead, the subject of the iPhone 4’s quirky reception issues is likely to be addressed by the Californian computer giant – warts and all.
The announcement follows Apple’s previous attempts to mitigate by telling consumers to hold the phone differently, buy a bumper or wait for a promised firmware fix.
It’s unusual to see Apple on the defensive like this. Dare we hope they’ll try to sweep it under the carpet by announcing the iPod Touch Shuffle?

I bought a £3.99 cover from Amazon and it has improved my signal a bit. Very poor that a cheap bit of plastic improves a £200-£400 phone's signal.

I have a feeling they will be on the defensive.... They'll have one of there experts there coming out with disingenuous bull, saying all phones loose reception when holding them in a certain way, plus this firmware update will improve the reception! also anyone wanting to return there iphone will be given a full refund.. They'll also reduce the price of the bumper case for anyone buying an iphone, say, I guess by about 25% and finally they'll come out with all the positive figures on the iphone!

appy I agree with you there I'm sorry I ever updated to io4! my 3g keeps sticking and certain apps are crashing hope they will deal with this in the 4.01 update!....

Yup - Same here with the 3G OS4 update.
Is there a way to revert back to my old OS!? My phone has nosedived in speed since I updated - I now put the kettle on when i want to open my messages!! ha
Still - amazing phone, despite any negatives - hope all the bugs can get sorted by the time i upgrade to iphone4!

a friend of mine who works for a small software company said she is having problems with her 3gs and im having a lot of crashes on my 3g version. she told me software houses often bring out certain upgrades to meet deadlines etc knowing about the fixes they need to do, in this instance for the 4.0.1.
a real shame as the 3g probably only needed the email update and now i have to put up with my iphone slowing right down - please fix apple or my next purchase will be an htc

Will be fascinating to see how Apple approach this. Their brand is vital to them and hopefully they will act in such a way that will please customers (and therefore strengthen their brand).
Having said that, my iPhone 4 has had no problem, and I love it. Guess I must just be lucky.

In a way, this is good. It's a public slap on the wrist and might hopefully knock their arrogance down a peg or two - unlikely as that is.
Before the fanboys burn me, I don't hate Apple - I'm writing this on a MacBook, with a 3GS on the table next to me, and a 1st-gen iPod touch upstairs.

I love my new iPhone but have been very annoyed with how Jobs has been handling the issue. Instead of saying that they're looking into the problem etc they tell us how to hold a phone and pretend that making a signal bar bigger is going to solve it. I don't like how they're treating us like morons
