BlackBerry Torch 9800 – first impressions video

BlackBerry Torch

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 could very well be the phone emailing Crackberry addicts have been waiting for. Not only is it the first BB slider - combining a non-clickable touchscreen with its famous QWERTY keyboard - but it's also RIM's first handset to show off the refreshed BlackBerry 6 OS.

The new OS, RIMS's attempt to shake off its business oriented identity and appeal to a wider audience, is full of compelling new features that are significantly different to the old version, such as social network and RSS feeds, a new Webkit browser and a 5MP camera.

Intrigued? Check out what we made of it in our first impressions video.

Is it me or does this appear that Blackberry is going backwards? While the Samsungs and Apples smartphones are polishing their touchscreen technology, Blackberry are going back to the tried and tested Qwerty keyboard!! Just makes it look cumbersome!

as true as it is with touchscreen keyboards being a genuine alternative, there are a heck of a lot of people i know who insist on having a keyboard of some sort, i like to "feel" like im pressing something, is another thing i hear a lot from people still not confinced by touch screens. whilst ive had the pleasure of a htc and an iphone both of whom have amazing touchscreen keyboards there are others i have played with where i am left fuming and incorrect button presses and no word correction or alternative word lists. there will be a market for people who like keypads and a lot of them are blackeberry customers.

Thus we know all too well what becomes of our needs, when one day we may be becoming a graduate student.

I've never understood the attraction of a blackberry, it's more like a pager than a cellphone. Though I suppose we web designers have to start planning for pages tailored to these mobile devices, I'll never understand their popularity.
