Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung was busy in August, with its Galaxy Tab 10.1 hitting the shelves in the UK – despite an ongoing legal battle with Apple that saw the slate unceremoniously yanked from sale in the EU. Samsung also announced its plans to add super-fast LTE connectivity to its Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9. And the rumour mill around the Nexus Prime suggested that Sammy would be constructing the first Ice Cream Sandwich handset.

Elsewhere, BlackBerry announced a second batch of its Torch phones and the first hints of Asus' follow-up to the Eee Pad Transformer – the Transformer Prime – emerged.

However, eclipsing the month's tech news was Steve Jobs' resignation as Apple CEO. Tim Cook, chief operating officer of Apple, stepped into the role of CEO to shepherd the upcoming iPhone launch – but there was no denying the shockwaves Jobs' announcement sent through the industry.
