Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
There's plenty of melodrama in this John le Carre adaptation – Colin Firth tossing his hair, lots of long moody looks – but apart from that, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a thoroughly modern classic.
Set during the Cold War, everyone is a suspect for being a Soviet spy. As we try to guess who's dobbing the others in, there's some fantastically tense scenes. We can't speak for everyone but personally we'd feel safer if Gary Oldman was really agent-hunting quietly at MI6.
