25 best space games ever

Starglider II (1988)

Amiga, Atari ST, DOS, Apple Macintosh, ZX Spectrum
Argonaut Games' sequel to Starglider was another early entry into the 3D space flight sim genre. Don't those polygonal graphics just take you back?

Gameplay is continuous (there are no levels) and even when you've destroyed the spacestation at the end, Starglider II just resets itself.

One of the only action games that could run on the Atari ST's display, some releases even included a separate cassette with the game's synth-tastic, instrumental theme on, something we should definitely get brought back.

Now, if this was a poll, at least the fan-boys wouldn't react quite like this.

...and Elite (innovative) had a much great impact than Elite 2 (buggy)

...and WC:The Darkening was MUCH better than WC:Privateer

...and while strictly speaking not a "space game", I myself am surprised that Missile Command isn't there for its trackball excellence.

...and you've included so many side scrollers, and not included the best two best ones (my opinion)... Defender & Scramble.

But I'm not going to rant.

Oooh, how about a 25 best side scrollers?
    Defender
    Scramble
    Green Beret
    Aliens
    Willow
    Sky Kid
    etc.

Hmmm maybe 25 won't be enough.
    :)

Those guys are right about Frontier. If you loved that, or the original Elite then you'll be interested that their creator (David Braben) is kickstarting development of the next sequel, Elite Dangerous. Have a look here:

The original Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga wasn't buggy. I played it for months without a hitch. It's sequel was a bit buggy however.
