25 best space games ever

Xenon 2 Megablast (1989)
Amiga, Atari ST, PC, Sega Mega Drive
Okay, the plot was a bit lacking – or non-existent – but in keeping with their image as the rock stars of gaming, The Bitmap Brothers were all about the presentation.
Music from Bomb the Bass scored the adventure as you blasted your way through waves of enemies in slick, gunmetal-grey environments. It was bloody hard, though.

Now, if this was a poll, at least the fan-boys wouldn't react quite like this.
...and Elite (innovative) had a much great impact than Elite 2 (buggy)
...and WC:The Darkening was MUCH better than WC:Privateer
...and while strictly speaking not a "space game", I myself am surprised that Missile Command isn't there for its trackball excellence.
...and you've included so many side scrollers, and not included the best two best ones (my opinion)... Defender & Scramble.
But I'm not going to rant.
Oooh, how about a 25 best side scrollers?
Defender
Scramble
Green Beret
Aliens
Willow
Sky Kid
etc.
Hmmm maybe 25 won't be enough.

Those guys are right about Frontier. If you loved that, or the original Elite then you'll be interested that their creator (David Braben) is kickstarting development of the next sequel, Elite Dangerous. Have a look here:

The original Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga wasn't buggy. I played it for months without a hitch. It's sequel was a bit buggy however.
