Golden Eye 007 (1997)
Based on the 1995 Bond Flick starring Pierce Brosnan, GoldenEye is regarded as one of the most important milestones in the FPS genre. Its array of gadgets and weapons was only overshadowed by the revolutionary multiplayer deathmatch mode where the tricky-to-see Oddjob reigned supreme.

Wow... rather shockingly, you seem to have forgotten THE game that made the FPS genre what it is today! Halo: Combat Evolved! The game that introduced carrying only 2 weapons, grenades and melee on a separate button, huge vistas and environments and an intricate and amazing storyline and very smart AI! Why is it not in this list?

Wolfenstien - first genuine fps
Medal of honor 1 - first decent ww2 fps
Original halo - the only reason to own the first xbox
Quake - fps goes mainstream

Halo CE will always hold a special place in my memory for hooking me on the series. However, when you're choosing only 25 games you have to make a few omissions. Reach is a stunning example of what the series evolved into and represents the cumulative of milestones that Bungie attained over the years.
Naturally no one list will satisfy all gamers and everyone is welcome to their own choices.
From - a massive Halo fan currently staring at 2 posters, a replica mjolnir helmet and complete book collection :p

Agreed, however some titles on this list, like Return to Castle Wolfenstien (a uniformly poor game) but not including the original ground breaking wolfenstien, is crazy. Personally I think cod4 was far better than black ops, but that's personal opinion.
How anyone could choose to put soldier of fortune on the list is beyond me. That game was not just rubbish, it was broken! It had gory graphics and that was it. If the title of the piece was "top 25 fps to get into the news" then they may have had a point, but soldier of fortune "one of the BEST 25 fps ever"??? Give me a break!

When I was younger, first person games were my favorite. Now I find them a bit tiring and I'd much rather relax while playing something like Jewel Quest. I guess Quake I remains my top favorite FPS because I haven't managed to find that feel in any other game ever since.
