Panasonic recruits the budget-friendly LS5 to the Lumix lineup

Fancy a compact camera that can hold its own without draining your funds? Meet the LS5…

It's easy to be put off by the fact that Panasonic’s newly announced DMC-LS5 will run on AA batteries, but this is definitely not just another budget happy snapper. A 36mm wide-angle lens with a max un-extended lens aperture of f2.8 should ensure decent results in gloomy conditions, and some nifty optical image stabilisation should guarantee that even the most jittery, caffeine-fuelled photographer will be able to take clear snaps. Intelligent shooting modes and 720p video recording seal off the spec sheet rather nicely and although no pricing or release date has been bestowed upon us as of yet, it’s safe to say that this is one budget cam worth holding out for.
