Handy then that Orange is today throwing itself into the mobile wallet game, teaming up with Barclaycard to offer a similar service to their punters. While it doesn't mean the O2 deal is dead, it shows they need to step up their game.

Both the mobile giant and credit card colossus are promising that contactless technology will make its way to Orange phones 'in the next few months'. As well as wave and pay, plans are afoot to use the Near Field Communications tech for travel and ticketing too.
