Olivetti's OliPad joins the tablet army

The Italian typewriter and computer company turns it hand, somewhat predictably, to the tablet

Evolution is a must for enduring in the feral wilderness of super-phones and magical tablets and former typewriter manufacturer Olivetti is mutating accordingly, in a tablet-driven attempt for survival.

The 10inch, Android-infused OliPad is powered by an dual-core A9 processor, as well as boasting all important USB and HDMI ports and an SD card slot; tempting features indeed, especially when stacked up against certain other tablets.

Unsurprisingly a whole host of accessories will be on offer, including a capacitive pen and touch mouse to go alongside the standard keyboards and docking stations.

Time will tell if this new direction will prove to be successful, but either way it’s certainly a far cry from the mechanical thundering of jammed keyboards and ink-stained fingers.
