Sony have been talking up how the PlayStation 3 will be upgraded to take advantage of 3D TV. Now Microsoft have gone a step further, suggesting that the Xbox 360 might not even be halfway through its life span.
It seems we'll still be playing on the same consoles in five years' time. That's got to be a relief to those of us who've bet their money on systems such as the Sega Saturn or Atari Jaguar in the past.
It might also force game developers to focus more on how their games play rather than how good they look (although both would be good).
But will gaming be quite the same without regular console wars and the accompanying talk of 'emotion engines'?
