This, allegedly, is the new digital SLR camera Nikon’s hyping for launch next month.
If the pics are to be believed – several people have claimed they were deliberately leaked by the European Nikon site – the new 10.2 megapixel model will be called the D80. That puts it just above the existing D50 and D70, Nikon’s current budget and high-end options; there’s also the D200 for hardcore snappers, wedding photographers and other pros.
Now, provided we jump down the rabbit hole and believe these pics, what do they tell us? One: Nikon’s buggering around with its button layout. Two: there’s something that could be an anti-shake button, suggesting it might cancel out your wobbles in low light, like the Konica Minolta 5D.
Fortunately, we’ll be put out of our misery with hard facts soon. Nikon’s countdown comes to an end on the 8th August, which just happens to be the same day we’re hooking up with the Nikon crew for an announcement. Expect the full news from us shortly after a spot of luncheon on the day.
In the meantime, tease yourself silly by visiting Nikon’s dedicated site that promises ‘a camera that doesn’t disappoint’.
On sale: TBA, likely August or September
