[intro]Tired of trudging home in squidgy trainers thanks to summer monsoons? Check out Nike's new waterproof flappers[/intro]
This curious May weather is enough to confuse anyone's footwear tactics. It's warm, which makes you want to wear shorts, but the constant driving rain means your shoes get filled with water if you're wearing anything less than an immersion survival suit. Suddenly, these new Nike trainers are an attractive proposition.
The Soakers combine the water draining of a river shoe with the upper of a half-boot trainer – slightly cooler than your average Browning Classics. Water runs off the shoes thanks to a combination of a water-resistant polyethylene mesh and nifty drainage ports, so your feet should be kept dry even if you're wading through a shallow river. Well, the guys in Nike's microsite seem happy.
Mountain bikers and campers will also be pleased to hear that the rubber soles have been designed to provide great traction on slippery surfaces, while rubber bumpers protect your toes from toe-breaking boulders. There's even camouflage styling to make your feet invisible to snakes. The Soakers are available from Schuh now for £50.
