New iPhone 2.1 – the first evidence?

With the iPhone 3G barely six months old, talk has already turned to a sharp new version, thanks to apparent evidence uncovered in the latest firmware

MacRumors has found reference to iPhone 2.1, a major leap from the current 1.2 edition. It's worth remembering that Apple uses these leaps in number to distinguish between new models, with Mac fanboys pointing out the jump from iPod Touch 1.0 to iPod Touch 2.0 last year.

So what are we looking at? Well, that juicy fact remains elusive. But previous suggestions say we'll be getting more storage, a better camera, a screen to rival that of the HTC Touch HD and maybe even that much–fabled copy and paste function.

Either way, Apple is remaining understandably coy. For our money, we reckon we'll see an update in June or July, tying in with the anniversary of the release of both versions of the mighty mobile.

What do you think? Is this a hoax or the real deal? And what do you want from the next iPhone? Tell us what you think in the comments section.
