Launched last week was Microsoft’s Windows Live Spaces, its all-new blog-n-go replacement for MSN Spaces with added features and gadgets. The name ties in with other Microsoft projects Windows Live Messenger (replacing MSN Messenger), Windows Live Contacts (replacing MSN Contacts), Windows Live Mail…you get the idea.
The multiple window interface is pretty familiar to those used to MySpace, Bebo, and of course MSN Spaces but WLS maxes on clarity and user friendliness. This is despite a bewildering array of modules available to you from horoscopes through RSS feeds to Xbox Live gaming data as well as the traditional photo sharing, blog, personal info and lists.
The big advantage Live Spaces has over MySpace and the like is the convergence between Live Spaces and Live Messenger allowing easy IM and VoIP chats with people in your Friends module. This really makes Live Spaces your one-stop interface with the world. Don’t want the world contacting you back? Then use WLS’s advanced privacy controls, where you can easily block out that irritating no-mates kid you knew at school.
