Last week four gaming hacks and five gamers were given a copy of the game, told to play it at least four hours before gathering in a west London pub to discuss its merits and meaning.

It could have been awkward: An hour and a half discussion of Mass Effect 2's reductionist approach to role-playing and the deeper meaning behind the story line. But it worked.

It wasn't quite Newsnight Review - and that's probably a good thing - but interesting, unusual and fun. It isn't often you get to chance to talk about one game where everyone's experience of it is around the same level while enjoying some food and drink.

Anyone think it could catch on?
