Meet the new Dell Mini 9 netbook

Just as predicted yesterday, Dell has finally stopped months of itty bitty leaks and come clean with their very own Eee PC destroyer, the Mini 9 netbo

For now, us UK netbook lovers are only getting dibs on the XP version, but at that price we're certainly not going to balk. Under the hood you'll find a hearty 1GB of RAM, up to 16GB SSD, an Intel Atom and the usual 8.9in screen that seemingly every laptop needs these days to make itself hip for the cool kids heading back to school or college.

Input-wise, you'll get USB, a 3-in 1 card reader, VGA and Ethernet. On top of that you get Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 1.3MP camera for web nattering. At the moment, Dell is being coy about how much the specced up versions will cost here, but they have just announced that a £269 Linux model will land "in a few weeks." That'll be the one we plump for then.

And remember, you don't need to be confused about all these little blighters, just read our guide to buying a netbook instead. And if you reckon this could be the ultimate back to school gadget, then check out our list of the best kit to get term time going again.
