Leica has unveiled the upgrade to the M9 in the more professionally focused M9-P. Like its predecessor you will still find a compact design, silent shutter, and an 18MP 24x36mm sensor. But now you get an anti-reflective LCD screen made from crystal sapphire that is so resilient it had to be made using diamond cutting tools – if only mobiles and tablets could follow this. A vulcanised leatherette finish helps with gripping while a ‘soft release’ mode on the shutter allows for light-pressure button control when held at an awkward angle.
This is a professional camera with all the options expected on such a device, hence the £5,400 price tag. It will let you use nearly all Leica M lenses so you won’t be wasting any you have. Can’t afford this but want it bad? Better get saving quick as it’s due out in black and silver models at the start of July.
