Digital book sales increased by 20 percent last year to a respectable £180 million, proving that this ebook reader malarkey is more than just a fad. But up until now we’ve had to shop around at various online stores, each with its own proprietary format. Lovereading is set to change the rules by adding Apple’s iBooks to their existing Kindle and ePub formats, making it the world’s first online store to offer all three formats. Throw in the iBookstore recommended titles and we have ourselves a pretty handy solution to ebook fragmentation, although we’d much rather Amazon and Apple shook hands and birthed a single standardised format. Well, we can dream.
