Wikitude Drive brings augmented reality sat-nav to Android
Augmented reality is our favourite buzz phrase of the year and as the weeks go by our realities are getting…well…more augmented. Wikitude Drive for Android phones is the first augmented reality sat-nav app we've seen.
Wikitude Drive shows a live camera feed from your phone's camera and overlays an arrow which twists and turns to show you the direction you should be headed in. It supports voice commands and uses your data connection rather than installing maps on to your phone.
The developers claim that it'll work worldwide. You'll also get Wiki supplied info on points-of-interest as overlays. Wikitude Drive is not available yet but the developers say it'll be with us soon. It's working with big map firms now to get something sorted.

Now project it onto your windscreen with a built in mini-projector.

I agree with John. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how pretty a sat-nav looks as the person who needs to pay attention to it i.e. the driver, shouldn't be looking at a pokey little screen anyways. I can see the potential, but you're not going to be reading about points of interest or anything like that when you're driving through town; well, you shouldn't be, but the way most people drive these days you probably would anyway.
