Unboxed – Samsung i8910 HD

05 Jun 2009

In what we can only describe as an incredible coincidence, Samsung's new i8910 HD landed on our desk just three days before the expected new iPhone debuts at WWDC. As we're willing to do pretty much anything to escape the Apple rumours, we took it to our reviews bunker for a quick play.

As you can see above, it's actually slighty more long-faced than T-Mobile's G1 (right), minus the Bruce Forsyth chin. This gives it enough real estate to squeeze in an excellent 3.7in OLED screen with 640x360 resolution.

It's one of the most spectacular displays we've seen on a phone and, as it's a capacitive touchscreen, much more responsive than its predecessor. The lack of multi-touch, though, means the iPhone still edges it as a mobile web browser.

The i8910's headline feature is its 8MP camera, which can shoot 720p video at 24fps. That puts it right on the coat-tails of pocket HD camcorders like the Flip Mino HD, particularly as it gives you the added advantage of directly uploading videos to the web over Wi-Fi or HSDPA.

With 8GB of storage and built-in GPS too, the i8910's prospects look good – look out for a full review on Monday, and scroll down for more pics.
