Unboxed: Apple iPhone 3G

10 Jul 2008

You've watched our hands-on video. You've read our full review. Now all you want to know is what the iPhone 3G is like out of the box, newborn and unairbrushed. Let's have a look, shall we?

The iPhone 3G comes in an identical box to the original, which means the only accessories are some pretty terrible headphones, a USB lead, power adaptor and a cleaning cloth. Sadly, there’s no sign of the dock that came with the original iPhone either.

Not that you’ll be dabbing away tears with the cleaning cloth for long. The iPhone 3G’s curved back panel makes it even more comfortable in the hand than its predecessor, and our 16GB’s model black behind looks very smart – you really shouldn't be overly bothered about the UK shortages of the white version.

It is a little chunkier than its predecessor and, as the comparison snap below shows, significantly more portly than the iPod Touch. But the addition of 3.5G and AGPS has made our decision easy: the one on the left is in our pocket, the one on the right is on eBay.

Of course, this is just the beginning of the journey – make sure you keep an eye on our iPhone blog for regular updates on what it's like to live with and our favourite apps from the App store.

There's no such thing as a decent camera phone, they all pretty much suck either from too much compression or shutter lag.
