Unboxed – Apple iPod Shuffle 3rd gen

13 Mar 2009

The new iPod Shuffle was certainly not the most expected of new Apple gadgetry when it was announced yesterday. But having got our mitts one one already, we have to say it's right up there with the coolest kit from Cupertino.

The newbie clocks in at half the size of its second gen older bro, and makes the first iPod Shuffle look positively portly by comparison, as you can see below. Obviously this is all down to the lack of buttons, which have been pushed onto the headphone cable. Audio purists will complain, but Apple has said that plenty of 3rd party folk will be releasing special adaptors so you can use your own buds if you prefer.

The availabilty of playlists and a bulked up 4GB of storage give this full–on iPod credentials. And its size is something to marvel at. You can see it in our hands–on video tomorrow and stay tuned too for an in–depth review soon. In the meantime, feast on our slew of pics.

You are joking, has anybody listened to the sound quality from a pair of Apple bundled headphones? It's like buying a really expensive set of separates and attaching speakers which were found in a skip. Seems like a mile away from the other great quality products they have been producing recently. Dont quite agree with the pound shop comment but the whole thing seems totally uninspired.

COME ON PEOPLE!! I think this product is great! Its really small and is ideal for runners, walkers etc. Just clip on your jacket and then ur off.But although i would like to see it in different colours rather than just balck and silver.

What's the robot voice sound like? Twiki from Buck Rogers or the cool, chilling tones of Hal 9000?

It's the same guy from OSX. Alex is his name (seriously). If you have Windows or Tiger, you get a more chilled voice. Personally, I thought the Leopard one sounded great. I'd love it to tell me I was listening to Fitter Happier by Radiohead. It was that similar.

I wonder if its just a memory stick and the gubbins are in the headphones now. Has someone tried just plugging norml phones in?
