Stuff Gadget Awards 2011 – nominees announced

Break out the trumpets and start blowing – it's time to announce the shortlist for the Stuff Gadget Awards 2011, powered by Intel.

Honouring the frothy cream of this year's bumper gadget crop, there are a staggering 20 categories spanning the best tech of the last 12 months, including Tech Accessory of the Year, Phone of the Year and Gadget of the Year.

Six of those prestigious gongs have been chosen by you, our readers, in a fevered frenzy of voting, while the rest have caused many a heated argument among the panel of Stuff experts. Don't worry – we're sure the rifts will heal just in time for next year's awards…

A new addition to the awards sheet is the tablet category. Designed to settle the score in the most hotly-contested gadget arena of the year, it sees the Apple iPad come up against stiff competition from the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Acer A100, BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Sony Tablet S. Which will win out?
