Rumour: iTunes 8 to include 'Genius' auto playlist generator

05 Sep 2008

Kevin Rose, Digg founder and inveterate Apple rumourmonger, has blogged about some features he expects to see in the new version of iTunes.

These include Genius, which 'makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together' and (here's the rub) recommends iTunes Store songs you really should click to buy.

Other features suggested by his unnamed source include a 'Grid' view for browsing artists and albums, hi-def TV shows, and new 'a stunning new music visualizer'. Fire it up.

We'll find out at the Apple event on September 9th whether Rose's predictions are accurate.

Some of these new iTunes features are pretty neato. However, I've been using nuTsie's sideTunes sidebar mod for iTunes which already does a lot of what the new "Genius" is claiming. It mixes in recommended, streaming music based on what's already in your iTunes collection.
