New MacBooks set for October?

17 Sep 2008

With all this iPod nano talk, gossip on the new MacBook has seemingly disappeared. But now the rumour mill is cranking up again, with the boys at Electric Pig reporting that the new machines will be ready to buy at a knockdown price next month.

Analyst Richard Garner, from Citigroup, seems to think the aluminium clad laptops are already shipping and will cost $999 in the States. You can expect a UK price of £599, a ton cheaper than the current bottom–of–the–range model.

He also reckons we'll be getting backlit keyboards and a thinner frame. Wouldn't that be nice. We're actually gagging for one now, so all this waiting is starting to do our heads in somewhat.

What do you think? Will Apple drop new MacBooks in October? Let us know what you think in the comments section.

I see that "The Kooks" are to play at an intimate gig at London's Apple store this Thusday (18th). Any chance this is related to a new macbook announcement?

Nah, it's one of Apple's regular gigs at Regent Street. The Kooks were supposed to play their over the summer but had to reschedule. Expect the iTunes store to go down at some point and Apple to slip them out, like they did with the iMac last year.

    Cheers

I really do hope they bring out new laptops this year. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm starting to lose interest in the macbook's current style and shape. It's nice, but apple are known for nicer xD

why dont they just a the macbook air between £300 to £400. or atleast look at the current market and make a rival to dells 9inch inspiron. Why should we have to pay so much for design. This is 2008 people come on!

i think this is probably all lies as why would they take a flagship model and drop a £k off the price ?

its more likely that we will see a slimmed down macbook with no cd drive same slow processor and a 10inch screen...

not that this would be the worse thing in the world...
