New iPod nano taking its cue from Zune?

31 Jul 2008

Armfuls of salt with this one chaps. According to iLounge, the next version of the iPod nano will look more than a tad like the yet–to–be–released here Microsoft Zune.

Apparently, “multiple sources” have told the Apple–loving site that Cupertino is readying a return to the elongated model of the first and second gen nanos, eschewing the neat new design of the third gen model.

All this is so the nano can squeeze in the same 1:5:1 screen found on the Classic and the Touch. That would mean spinning the screen round (and using an accelerometer?) in order to watch video. You can see a mock up in the pic above. Colour–wise, iLounge says the rumoured rainbow model won’t materialise. Praise be!

What do we think? Well, frankly it sounds like total piffle. Why would Apple get rid of one of their boldest redesigns in recent years? The nano is great as it is. Expect a possible memory bump and a slight design tweak, but nothing like this.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments section.

That is absolutely terrible, all someone has done is photo shopped a 2nd Generation Nano and extended the screen. I hope that this is nothing like what it is actually going to look like!
