iPhone and iPod Touch becoming remote controls
Talk of turning your iPhone or iPod Touch into a remote control has been kicking around since both devices were officially dropped last year.
Now, though, it appears Apple is readying an official announcement. The latest version of iTunes, 7.7, has been handed over to intrepid developers, with the installer telling punters they can “"use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home - a free download from the App Store."
That’s all they’re offering at the moment, but we’ve always been keen on the idea of using our multitouch mavens to control our iTunes library via Wi–Fi when at home.
Whether this will be called iControl, as previously thought, remains to be seen. We’re also hoping we won’t have to shell out to get the new app on our Touch. But given Apple’s previous in this area, we’re not holding our breath.
