iPhone 3G launch date 'confirmed'

Apple's next-gen iPhone is likely to arrive on June 9th when Steve Jobs addresses the WWDC in San Francisco. That much we suspected. But new reports from Gizmodo claim to confirm the date, and the roll-out plans.

The 3G iPhone will be apparently be available immediately after the keynote in the US, with an international roll-out within weeks, according to 'someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch.'

Why should these rumours be believed? Well, Gizmodo isn't known for spreading muck - and with so many operators involved with the global launch it was inevitable that the new iPhone's unveiling would be more leaky than most Apple announcements.

The details in the report - which specifically mentions the Spainish availability from June 18th -  suggests the source works in one of Apple's network partners.

Intriguingly, Gizmodo cites another source as saying the new iPhone will have variable pricing - which could lead to the enticing prospect of subsidised iPhones on UK networks. Free iPhone anyone? Thought so...

As always with Apple, there's no official confirmation. That would spoil the fun. And of course, there's always the chance that this 'confirmation' is as phoney as the fake Steve Jobs keynote that circulated before Macworld 2008.
