Icon – Trek District Carbon
Quick! Someone call Batman and tell him we’ve found his bike
Nice idea. One problem: the Dark Knight’s commute around Gotham tends to involve a high-speed, gunned-up urban tank and several million dollars worth of damage to public and civic property. Not a singlespeed city bike made entirely from carbon fibre. The only damage you’ll do with a Trek District Carbon is to your fellow cyclists’ self-esteem (and potentially their bank balances). This is the ultimate ride for any daily pedal pusher.
It’s two wheels bolted to a bit of polished-up charcoal. Who cares?
Do you even know how to spell “philistine”? Copy it down now and keep it somewhere safe. The only thing this is missing is the guns. Rather than having a mucky old chain clanking about round the back wheel, the District Carbon is belt-driven, making it so quiet that it’s permanently set to stealth mode. It’s the kind of belt more commonly found on motorbikes, so it’ll never stretch, let alone rust. That means maintenance is kept to a minimum.
So it should be for £2800
Sure, it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for. A frame made entirely from carbon fibre will not only deflect even the toughest challenges a heavy-handed commuter can throw at it, it’s also ridiculously lightweight. One thing’s for sure: if the Caped Crusader gives up superheroism for a position in HR at Gotham Insurance Services Inc, this is how he’ll get to work.
