BookRabbit nibbles your bookshelf

Ordering books online is one of the web’s fail safes – there’s very little chance it’ll break in the post or turn out to be not at all what you wanted.

However, finding good book recommendations is notoriously difficult on an internet full of opinion and often full of idiots.

Amazon make personal recommendations, but these tend to be arbitrary and often repetitive. Buy a diet book for your Auntie one time and suddenly you’re bombarded with thousands of recommendations for self-improvement books.

BookRabbit is a new site that promises to recommend books that’ll be truly catered for your individual tastes. It’s also a social networking site where readers, authors and publishers can discuss their favourite reads, make recommendations and make personal libraries.

There’s a rather neat function where you can upload a picture of your bookshelf whereupon BookRabbit will scan it and make recommendations based upon your picture.

I wonder what it’d recommend from a book shelf where Houllebecq nestles beside Asimov and Timmy Mallet’s How To Be Utterly Brilliant?
