Apple 'sells 3m iPhone 3Gs in first month'
Apple has smashed expectations by selling 3million iPhone 3Gs in the first month, according to analyst Michael Cote.
Former T-Mobile executive Cote told CNN that Apple was 'seeing unprecendented demand', which is expected to continue as the iPhone was launched into new 20 new territories later this month. Indeed, Cote predicts that Apple will find it tough to produce iPhones quickly enough to meet demand.
A million iPhone 3Gs were sold in the first weekend alone, and in the UK fans were still queueing over two weeks after the launch. iPhone first appeared. It's now possible to walk into most Carphone Warehouse, O2 shop or Apple Store to pick up an iPhone, but demand is likely to spike again when O2 announces the pay-as-you-go iPhone before Christmas.
There are rumours of an iPhone Nano debuting before Christmas too, although given the success of the current iPhone it seems more likely that Apple will wait until next year before making significant changes to the iPhone family.
So despite relatively slow sales of the original iPhone - 146,000 units in the first weekend, 1million after two months - it seems that Apple's new, cut-price handset is another massive hit for the company. Now all it needs to do is persuade someone buy an Apple TV. Someone other than me, that is.
