5 tech projects to do this Easter

06 Apr 2009

Change your mobile dealLashing out upwards of £40 a month on your phone during the financial meltdown™ is frankly crazy. Take advantage of the four day weekend and save yourself a bundle on a new mobile deal. T–Mobile is offering 350 minutes and unlimited texts for £15 a month on their SIM–only offering, SOLO. Three has a Nokia E71 for £20 a month with 200 minutes and unlimited texts and web. Remember also to recycle your old blower. Fonebank.com will let you trade or sell it.  Spring clean your PCFace it, your desktop's a disgrace. Get your files and folders nice and tidy while it's tipping it down outside. Then head online and nab yourself some external storage and get everything backed up. Amazon's currently selling a 1TB Toshiba model for just £69.98. We suggest you get buying and back up everything you can. Set up your hi–fiSo you spent a hefty part of your savings on that killer hi–fi set up you'd always wanted. Good on you. Shame it's still not been properly put together and you're still using that old iPod dock instead. Spend your four free days getting it in order and cranking out your favourite Van Halen tracks and you'll be laughing. Whathifi.com will take you through how to get the best out of your kit.Tidy up your music libraryFace it, whether you use Media Player or iTunes, your music library is a mess. And with all that spare time, you can rip the last of your CDs, go through and make sure every album's got a cover and clear out all those playlists that you never listen to. Who knows, you may stumble across a few lost classics. Mr Vain by Culture Beat anyone?Organise your photosLike your music library, it's easy to turn your photos into an unholy assortment of boozy nights and amazing holidays. If you've got the new version of iPhoto, why not tag your snaps to where they were taken and crank that Faces feature into action. If you find some you fancy reeling for old–school albums, PhotoBox is offering prints at the moment for 5p a pop.

I'm afraid to say that much of my media could do with organising and while its wholly satisfying once the job is done, I'm very intimidated right now

I agree that the work involved in the last two is to much for the easter break. With Itunes I now have Movies, TV shows as well as music. I just finnished ripping my Friends DVDs (the series, not those belonging to my frends which would be wrong) and it took be three weeks. Also I have a backlog of Iphoto uploads to check as now we need to add the people. The applicaion is great, but it does not get everyone. No, for me easter will be more chilled that doing any of this. Have a nice break!!

I for one need to rip about three quarters of my CDs still. The thinking behind the feature was that while this weekend is great for chilling, there's loads of spare time to do stuff that needs doing too. Stay tuned for more Easter–themed pieces this week. Joe
