Apple to release new iMac next week?

02 Aug 2007

I've been invited to visit Apple for a 'product demonstration' on August 7th - and all rumours point to a radically redesigned iMac

[/intro]

Just a quickie – received a last minute call from Apple this morning inviting me to San Francisco for a 'product demonstration'. That's not a product launch, or an announcement, but a demonstration. Nonetheless, I'm putting my money on a brand new iMac.

Our friends over at Engadget recently posted what is believed (by some) to be a keyboard from the new iMac (pictured above) which is rumoured to be finished in aluminium and much thinner than the current machine. Perhaps it'll have Multi-Touch. Perhaps it'll have Blu-Ray. Perhaps it'll have legs and wings.

I don't know - but I'm weeping with excitement... and whatever it is, I want one.

    So, are you going?!!! (^_^)

My money is on something iPod related - or at a stretch, some new iLife apps or upgrades.

How strange that it's just a demo, has Steve ever before called for a 'special event' just to demo something?

they've said it's mac related and not iPod related. so new iMac is most likely.

    Tom,

As a mac devotee I can hardly wait until 7th Aug - I've been after a new imac for ages, and have followed the rumors a little too closely than is strictly healthy. The recent gaming announcements, and the forthcoming new OS make for a very exciting time for Apple fans. Just one thing - is the person who does the top ten lists in the mag on holiday? I've received two copies of Stuff through the post since the MBP was updated with Geforce 8600 graphics, but your mags info still doesn't reflect this! Its still the worlds most desirable laptop though...

Arent we due a new set of iLife and iWork apps around about now? Maybe these will be announced as well? Or maybe it will just be these apps and no new iMac?

Ive only just bought a new MacBook and am looking forward to the new iLife and iWork apps (hopefully with a seperate spreadsheet app this time?!?!) - God I sound sad lol!

I'm DESPERATE for a new version of iWeb - I love that little app to death, but boy it is ever annoying sometimes. 2 weeks ago, I had a problem opening my blog, when I eventually get it open, I find that half the graphics have gone AWOL!! I've been trying to track them down ever since . . .  Grrr!

Although I'd love to see a new iMac, I happen to think that the current model is nigh on perfect, so it's hard to see how much better it can get - it all seems to be about MacBooks these days.

How about the long rumoured Apple TV Display thing? An upgraded Apple TV slapped inside a Large 32 or 48 display.

I have never used a mac in my life and, being a teacher get massive discounts on hardware and software. I'm definitely going to buy a mac within the next year. Is it worth waiting for this new announcement before buying?

According to thinksecret.com there will three new models - two with 20in screens and one with 24in. They have US pricing, too, with the entry-level 20in iMac for $1499, a $300 price drop compared to the current 20in.
