The LG Watch Urbane puts a metal spin on the G Watch R

Next Android Wear device is positioned as a luxury alternative to LG’s sporty superstar

Ahead of its proper debut at Mobile World Congress in a couple weeks, LG just announced the Watch Urbane, an Android Wear smartwatch with an all-metal body that looks like a luxury-minded take on the G Watch R.

Even LG admits that the Watch Urbane uses the company’s previous wearable as its base, and it keeps the 1.3in circular Plastic OLED display and same technical specifications. However, while the G Watch R had a sporty demeanor, the Watch Urbane is aimed at those looking for a higher-end timepiece.

The stainless steel body is available in gold and silver models with a stitched leather 22mm strap, and although the core design is largely familiar, the Watch Urbane has a “narrower bezel that gives it sleeker lines” than the G Watch R, says LG.

“The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Mobile. “LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.”

No details about pricing or availability were provided, but we’ll surely get that info during MWC, which runs from 2-5 March.
