LG announces 21:9 FreeSync gaming monitor, as well as a connectable curved display
UltraWide display is designed for smooth game performance without screen tearing
Next week is CES 2015 in Las Vegas, where all of the big tech companies showcase what they believe is the next big thing. And in LG’s case, it plans to put even more focus into 21:9 displays.
The super-widescreen (LG calls them “UltraWide”) displays offer potentially more immersive viewing experiences for media designed to support them, and LG has a couple different options debuting at the show next week. Chief among them is a screen designed specifically for gaming.
LG’s UltraWide Gaming Monitor is its first 21:9 option tuned specifically for AAA-style, high-performance games. The 34in display utilizes AMD’s FreeSync tech (based on open standards) to cut out nasty visual hitches like screen tearing and frame rate drops. Additionally, it has a Black Stabilizer to illuminate deep black areas and reveal hidden threats, and big games like Battlefield 4 and World of Warcraft support 21:9 output with more promised.
Also intriguing in the lineup – although probably not practical for the average consumer – is the 21:9 Curved UltraWide Multi-Display (above), which is a 34in screen capable of being mounted with up to three others of the same model for multiple display setups. LG says it’s ideal for stock traders, and that sounds like one of the few obvious implementations to us. It looks neat, at least.
LG will also have its 31in Digital Cinema 4K Monitor and 34in Quad HD UltraWide monitor (with Thunderbolt 2 compatibility) at CES, although both are already available for purchase.
