IREX has just announced the IREX DR800SG, the 8.1in ebook reader has built-in 3G and will launch in Europe at the start of 2010.

With an 8.1in screen, 2GB of built-in storage and memory card expansion, the IREX DR800SG looks seriously impressive. Sadly though it doesn't have a touchscreen.

IREX is promising a product which will play nice with fingers in Q2 2010. That product will also be colour. In the meantime, the IREX DR800SG will rock a stylus.

In the US, the new ebook reader will be supported by Barnes & Noble's eBookstore but fear not open format fans, it likes them too. The IREX DR800SG will accept PDF, EPub, Newspaper Direct, Fictionwise, eReader and TXT files.

The IREX DR800SG will sell for $399 in the US with a leather cover and stylus. It's set for US release in October. It'll come to the UK in early 2010 but we've been told to expect test units a lot sooner.

The fact that the IREX DR800SG features 3G and will hit the UK in early 2010 means it could beat Cool-Er which is planning a colour screen 3G-enabled model, Amazon's Kindle and Sony's Reader Daily Edition to the punch.
