iPlayer comes to real TV

Not content with soon serving Eastenders on your Wii and piping Dr Who to your iPod, BBC iPlayer is now coming to a TV near you.Auntie Beeb has got in

Auntie Beeb has got into bed with Virgin Media to offer its catchup service to TV owners without the need to download.

This means that 3.5 million Virgin customers will have free access to a week’s worth of Beeb programming on one channel – that’s 350 hours of telly, fact fans.

Ashley Highfield, the Beeb’s director of future media and technology said: "We have always envisaged the BBC iPlayer on a TV platform and in the living room."

Pity they don’t envision iPlayer on a Mac until the end of the year…
