iPhone 6 could have a 4.3in screen with proximity-adapting UI
Apple's next iPhone could change the size of its icons according to how far away you are from the screen
Now that the Samsung Galaxy S5 has officially been revealed, the iPhone 6 rumour mill will have to ramp up gossip production even more. And it’s started the week off with two juicy rumours.
First up – the screen. French site Nowhereelse has leaked a reportedly genuine iPhone 6 front panel which points to a 4.3in screen with slimmer bezels.
If true, it won’t be the 5in-plus phablet size that big screen lovers were hoping for, but it does match the 4.3in sweet spot of phones like the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, which offers brutal power in a miniature package.
The iPhones 6’s display could also support a dynamic user interface by using sensors to detect gestures, distance and location, adapting iOS 8’s menus and controls according to how far away you are from it.
Clever stuff
A patent entitled Computer User Interface System and Methods outlines how the size and content of information can be changed, depending on where you are in relation to the screen.
Text could, for example, increase in size, while the screen gets brighter, as a response to you moving further away from the screen.
Apple has filed plenty of patents in the past which have yet to see the light of day, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any more info, so stay tuned.
