Instagram Direct lets you send photos, videos and messages to your friends

A new update to Instagram injects it with social steroids

Instagram has announced an update to its iOS and Android apps which lets users share photos with each other.

Instagram Direct, as the new service is called, allows you to send photos and videos directly to your Instagram connections.

You can send photos and videos up to 15 people that follow you at once, and you can send text messages to individuals and groups about a particular photo too.

Your filtered shot of a bowl of cereal will, we’re sure, spark off a very heated discussion about the very workings of the universe. Or something.

You can of course also ignore photos from people you don’t know, or view them by adding them as a friend if you wish.

The Instagram app update will be available from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store today, so keep an eye out and get sharing.
